Rotorua has long been an iconic tourism destination for both New Zealand travellers and international visitors. It is known for its beautiful lakes, spectacular geothermal attractions, stunning scenery, and its warm and friendly people. Rotorua is renowned for its welcoming hospitality - often referred to as the traditional spirit of 'manaakitanga.'
Kia Ora. Good Day. My name is Susana So, 75% Chinese and 25% Filipina born in the Philippines and now a New Zealander. I arrived in New Zealand in 2001 (Auckland) to work as a Senior Traditional Animator. That's where most of my newcomer experience happened but it was when I moved to Rotorua in 2005, fast forward to 2007, where I became aware that there are groups of people- nationally and locally, willing to promote, protect and assist migrants and newcomers settling in New Zealand.
I serve as a Newcomers Network Coordinator in Rotorua, which is managed by Rotorua Multicultural Council Inc. (formerly Rotorua Ethnic Council Inc.) Now, you don't have to feel isolated or alone to tackle your concerns because through us and other migrant support providers, you will find a new friend...or extended family. We organise our own activities/events and there are more activities and skill development programmes available courtesy of various activity groups and community initiatives.
