The Ashburton District "The Granary of New Zealand" covers the central part of the South Island. The area includes two of New Zealands premier salmon fishing rivers, the Rakaia & the Rangitata. It has the largest area of flat land in any district of New Zealand, and is intensively farmed. The Mid Canterbury area offers spectacular scenery, the rivers, lakes and open spaces of the alpine foothills are very popular with visitors and locals alike wanting to enjoy the spectacular scenery, trout/salmon fishing, skiing, and tranquillity of the area.
The Mid Canterbury Newcomers Group offers many regular & varied activities & events for newcomers, these include a coffee group, a playgroup, walking groups, craft group, Zumba and many other different activities. Join us, we would love to meet you!

Hi, my name is Daria, and I am a Mid Canterbury Newcomers Network coordinator. Being originally from Russia I enjoyed living in Germany for almost 2 years. It wasn't that easy sometimes and I had to cope with a linguistic barrier and to get used to a new style of life... We all have to go through it when we are in a new country! But when you have good friends, nothing seems to be a problem!
I'm happy to be here in New Zealand, being able to help you guys to find new people and become a member of the community. I just think life is so wonderful and we have to enjoy it being together and helping each other! And "friends are the most important ingredient in this recipe of life."
I have a multicultural family. An incredible German husband and very cute little kiwi daughter. All of us enjoy living in New Zealand and I do wish that you will appreciate this wonderful country, fabulous nature, amazing animals and so versatile people!
