Our Coordinator: Baljit
Kia Ora and Sat Siri Akal,
Welcome to West Auckland!
I am Baljit the coordinator of the West Auckland Newcomers Network.
I am passionate about helping migrants and refugees settle well into living in Auckland.
I am also the coordinator of the Waitakere Ethnic Board, which was established in 2003. My main aim and of the board members (who are all migrants who have settle and want to give back to the
community) is to help enable all new migrants to adapt and become part of
the diverse ethnic community of Auckland.
We know it is important to be part of the community, but still retain your
own cultural identity. Having people integrate but not segregated is
important for anyone to develop a sense of belonging.
I have lived in West Auckland for over 30 years and love its unique
character. We have the Waitakere Ranges and the breath taking beautiful West
Coast beaches of Muriwai and Piha. At the same time we have been
experiencing rapid housing and industrial growth in this area.
You can contact me and for a start we can meet for tea or coffee and
conversation here at the Waitakere Community Resource Centre in Henderson. I look
forward to hearing from you 🙂
